Journal Descriptions

The International Review of Qualitative Research (IRQR) is a well-established, peer-reviewed academic journal published quarterly by SAGE Publications. Founded in 2008, the journal provides an international forum for high-quality research that advances qualitative inquiry, methodology, and theory within the social sciences and allied disciplines. IRQR particularly values work that engages critically with social structures, institutions, and power relations, and that promotes social justice, human rights, and dignity through scholarly inquiry. The journal welcomes diverse forms of qualitative research — including traditional, critical, experimental, arts-based, and innovative methodological approaches — that explore lived experience and social phenomena in ways that challenge conventional paradigms. Its scope includes, but is not limited to, ethnography, autoethnography, narrative inquiry, critical theory, participatory action research, and other interpretive practices. Many articles address pressing social issues such as inequality, identity, globalization, community practices, policy implications, and cultural dynamics. Linked with the influential International Congress of Qualitative Inquiry, IRQR often showcases scholarship shaped by global intellectual dialogues and conference themes. Indexed in major databases (e.g., EBSCO, ProQuest), the journal attracts a global readership of scholars, doctoral students, and practitioners interested in advancing qualitative research methods and insights that meaningfully impact society and academic discourse.
