International Journal of Social Determinants of Health and Health Services (IJSDOHS)
Journal Descriptions
The International Journal of Social Determinants of Health and Health Services (IJSDOHS) is a globally focused, peer‑reviewed academic journal published quarterly by SAGE Publications that critically examines how social forces, structural inequalities, and policy environments shape health outcomes and access to health services. Emerging in its current form around 2022 from the long‑running International Journal of Health Services, the journal builds on decades of scholarship that recognizes health not merely as a medical phenomenon but as deeply influenced by social determinants—including economic status, labor conditions, political power, gender and racial inequities, education, environment, and cultural contexts. IJSDOHS provides an interdisciplinary platform for original research, conceptual analyses, policy evaluations, and reflective debates that explore why and how health inequities persist globally and what interventions can address them effectively. The journal embraces diverse methodological approaches—from quantitative epidemiological studies to qualitative and critical theory research—making it relevant to scholars and practitioners across public health, sociology, health policy, economics, and human rights fields. By highlighting structural determinants and advocating for systemic change, IJSDOHS plays an influential role in shaping global conversations on health equity and informing evidence‑based policy and practice aimed at reducing disparities and improving population health and well‑being. Its readership includes academics, health professionals, students, and policymakers committed to social justice and public health improvement.
