Infant Mental Health Journal: Infancy and Early Childhood (IMHJIEC)
Journal Descriptions
The Infant Mental Health Journal: Infancy and Early Childhood (IMHJ) is a peer-reviewed, interdisciplinary scientific journal dedicated to advancing the understanding of social and emotional development in infants and young children (prenatal to early childhood) and the complex interrelationships between caregiving, family systems, culture, neurobiology, and risk factors that influence mental health outcomes. It publishes original empirical research, theoretical and conceptual papers, literature reviews, program descriptions, clinical studies, policy analyses, and brief reports that contribute to scientific knowledge and practical application in infant and early childhood mental health. The journal emphasizes relationship-based and developmental perspectives, integrating insights from psychology, psychiatry, pediatrics, social work, family studies, early childhood education, and related fields. IMHJ also highlights research that informs clinical practice, intervention programs, prevention strategies, and public policy to support optimal development for infants, toddlers, and their caregivers, particularly those in high-risk contexts. As the official journal of the World Association for Infant Mental Health and owned by the Michigan Association for Infant Mental Health, it serves a global community of researchers, clinicians, and policymakers committed to promoting healthy development from birth through early childhood.
