The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) plays a pivotal role in nation-building by empowering individuals through educational interventions. In this endeavour, the School of Journalism and New Media Studies seeks a new dimension by launching a peer-reviewed open-access research publication - IGNOU Journal of Media and Empowerment (ISSN: 3048-8478). The power equation in the communication process has witnessed titanic changes. Individuals are no longer receivers of information but can be produsers. The empowerment process through the media and communication system can enable the ordinary person to handle the system better and more effectively. Three fundamental dimensions of Media and Information Literacy - access, interpretation, and participation - help to shape people holistically and transform them into responsible citizens to exercise necessary democratic functions. IGNOU Journal of Media and Empowerment will explore the intricate relationship between individual emancipation through media for larger welfare. The Journal explores the interrelationship between media literacy, digital inequality and digital empowerment. The IGNOU Journal of Media and Empowerment started in 2024, and the first volume was issued in January 2024. This journal published volumes biannually, one in January and the second in July of the respective years. The IGNOU Journal of Media and Empowerment subject area revolves around all dimensions of Media and Information Literacy (MIL). This journal accepts articles in English only.
