Journal Descriptions

Indilinga: African Journal of Indigenous Knowledge Systems is a peer-reviewed academic journal dedicated to the study, documentation, and promotion of Indigenous Knowledge Systems (IKS) in Africa and beyond. The journal provides a multidisciplinary platform for scholars, researchers, and practitioners to critically engage with indigenous epistemologies, cultural practices, and knowledge traditions. It emphasizes the importance of integrating indigenous knowledge with modern scientific approaches to address contemporary social, environmental, educational, and developmental challenges. The journal encourages research in fields such as ethnoscience, anthropology, education, environmental studies, agriculture, health practices, philosophy, gender studies, and cultural heritage. Founded in the early 2000s (first issues recorded from around 2002), the journal is published in South Africa and has continued to serve as an important academic outlet for African-centered research. It is typically published biannually and features original research articles, reviews, and case studies. The editorial policy supports interdisciplinary dialogue and aims to preserve indigenous African knowledge while promoting its relevance in global academic discourse.
