IFEMED Journal (IJ)
Journal Descriptions
IFEMED Journal is the official publication of the IFEMED Journal Club, an academic organization run by medical students of Obafemi Awolowo University, Nigeria. Established in the mid-1970s, the journal has grown into a student-led platform dedicated to publishing scientific articles on topical issues in medicine and public health. Unlike conventional indexed medical journals, IFEMED Journal is primarily a themed publication, where each volume focuses on a specific healthcare topic such as infectious diseases, emergency medicine, non-communicable diseases, maternal health, cancer, and public health challenges in Nigeria and other developing countries. The journal serves as a training ground for young medical researchers, encouraging undergraduate and early-career medical students to engage in scientific writing, literature review, and academic publishing. Articles typically include original research, review papers, clinical perspectives, and case discussions. The editorial process is managed by student editors under the guidance of faculty advisors and medical consultants. IFEMED Journal emphasizes medical education, research skill development, and awareness of pressing health issues in Africa. It also promotes research culture within the College of Health Sciences at OAU. Over the years, it has produced numerous themed editions addressing key national and global health challenges, making it a respected student academic journal in Nigeria’s medical education system.
