Hydrogeology Journal (HJ)
Journal Descriptions
Hydrogeology Journal is a leading international peer‑reviewed scientific journal dedicated to the study of hydrogeology — the science concerned with the distribution, movement, and quality of groundwater in the Earth’s crust. Established in 1992, it serves as the official journal of the International Association of Hydrogeologists (IAH) and is published by Springer Science+Business Media / Springer Nature. The journal fosters understanding of both theoretical and applied aspects of hydrogeologic science by integrating subsurface hydrology and geology with supporting disciplines such as geochemistry, geophysics, geomorphology, surface‑water hydrology, numerical modelling, and environmental and socio‑economic perspectives relevant to groundwater systems. It publishes original research articles, reviews, field and laboratory studies, and special themed collections. Hydrogeology Journal is recognised globally for advancing groundwater science, resource management, and environmental protection. It has a broad readership among researchers, practitioners, and policymakers and supports both traditional subscription and open‑access publishing options through Springer’s Open Choice programme. Currently the journal issues eight regular issues per year, with one often comprising a special thematic collection.
