Journal Descriptions

Humanity is a triannual publication dedicated to publishing original research and reflection on human rights, humanitarianism, and development in the modern and contemporary world. An interdisciplinary enterprise, Humanity draws from a variety of fields, including anthropology, law, literature, history, philosophy, and politics, and examines the intersections between and among them. Humanity is dedicated to the publication of incisive review essays on recent scholarly books on human rights, humanitarianism, and development in the modern and contemporary world. These essays usually bring together more than one monograph, exploring them in comparison, while also placing them in their larger scholarly framework, and sustain their discussion for at least 5000 words. For an example, please see Pamela Beth Harris’ recent essay on Stephen Hopgood’s The Endtimes of Human Rights and Alison Brysk’s Speaking Rights to Power. Humanity is a peer-reviewed academic journal dedicated to publishing original research and reflection on human rights, humanitarianism, and development in the modern and contemporary world. An interdisciplinary enterprise, Humanity encourages relevant contributions from anthropology, economics, law, literature, history, philosophy, politics, public health, and sociology, as well as those contributions which seek to foster intersections between and among these disciplines.
