Journal Descriptions

For over 40 years, Hommes & Migrations has been disseminating knowledge about migration in France and around the world. Pluralist and multidisciplinary, the magazine brings together the thinking of researchers and the experience of practitioners. It publishes thematic dossiers on migratory flows, the realities of immigration, public policies and intercultural dialogue. Regular columns report on social and cultural news (debates, initiatives, books, films, shows, music). Since 2006, it has been published by the Cité Nationale de l'Histoire de l'Immigration, which has entrusted it with the role of raising public awareness of major contemporary issues: cultural diversity, integration, citizenship, relationships with others. Hommes & Migrations, a leading social science journal on migration and integration in France. In 1950, Father Ghys founded Cahiers nord-africains, the first magazine for reflection and action on the presence of North African immigration in France, published by the AMANA literacy association. In 1965, Cahiers took note of the diversification of migratory flows and became Hommes et Migrations. Since then, with an ever-motivated team, the magazine has become an essential reference on the theme of migration and integration in France and the rest of the world. The death of Philippe Dewitte, its editor-in-chief, in May 2005 left the team orphaned. With his death, the journal's linchpin and intellectual pilot was gone, he who for 10 years had managed to turn an initial information publication into a genuine journal with its own place and particularity in the field of journals in France.
