Journal Descriptions

Health Promotion Practice (HPP) is a bi-monthly, peer-reviewed journal that publishes authoritative research, commentary, practical tools, and promising practices that strategically advance the art and science of health promotion and disease prevention. The journal is unique in its focus on practical scholarship and strategic information for professionals engaged in developing, implementing, and evaluating health promotion policy and programs. HPP is one of the three journals of The Society for Public Health Education (SOPHE). The journal adheres to the principles of the Code of Ethics for the Health Education Profession and the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). Through SOPHE, HPP is a member of the Coalition for Diversity and Inclusion in Scholarly Publishing (C4DISC). HPP’s scope includes policy, programs, professional preparation and career development in diverse settings, including communities, health care, worksites, and schools. Its international editorial board reflects the journal’s commitment to global perspectives relevant across geographic, disciplinary, or organizational borders. Unique in its practitioner focus, HPP is committed to eliminating health disparities, achieving health equity, addressing social determinants of health, and advancing evidence-based health promotion practice. The journal requires attention to respectful and non-stigmatizing language. In 2021, the HPP Editorial Board adopted a set of 24 indicators that reflect our commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism in publishing. These indicators are tracked and reviewed quarterly for progress and areas needing improvement
