Journal Descriptions

Exercise, play and sport are among the most common and important activities in the growing up of children and adolescents. Young people are active in very different fields of action. In addition to formal settings, such as day-care centres and schools, these are non-formal fields such as sports clubs, all-day schools and youth welfare services or informal settings such as self-organised and commercial sports. Forum Kinder- und Jugendsport – Zeitschrift für Forschung, Transfer und Praxisdialog is the first journal in the German-speaking world that explicitly deals with the diverse field of children's and youth sports outside of school physical education. The journal promotes a systematic research-practice dialogue by publishing research articles with scientific quality standards as well as specialist articles from the practice of children's and youth sports. Theoretical and empirical research contributions from general and sports science childhood and adolescent research are supervised by an independent editorial board and undergo a double-blind peer review process. If accepted, they will be published in an online-first procedure. Open Access publication is possible. Technical contributions from the practice of children's and youth sports are, for example, project reports, conceptual contributions or topic-related statements and interviews with experts. These articles and supplementary sections are coordinated by a specialist editorial team of the German Sports Youth. With its interdisciplinary approach, Forum Kinder- und Jugendsport is aimed at volunteers and full-time employees of children's and youth sports, scientists with a focus on children's and youth sports, students as well as sports, education and youth politicians. The publishers are the German Sports Youth (dsj) and the scientists in the dsj research network.
