Film International is devoted to the study of world cinemas, focusing on films within international and transnational contexts. The journal offers insights into the broader scope of cinema practices across the globe, both feature-length and otherwise, including by way of cultural comparison. It not only encourages attention to underrepresented regions such as the Global South, small-nation and minor cinemas, but also to how aesthetic choices have been made in these contexts. It not only encourages attention to underrepresented regions such as the Global South, small-nation and minor cinemas, but also to how aesthetic choices have been made in these contexts. Film International publishes rigorously peer-reviewed articles as well as book and festival reviews. It focuses on fostering a deeper understanding of filmmaking as an art form rooted in universal human expression, beyond the commercial priorities that dominate in certain regions. The journal aims to broaden the film studies canon, expanding the field while responding to ongoing changes in increasingly globalized societies and cultures.
