Feminist Anthropology (FA)
Journal Descriptions
Feminist Anthropology is an academic journal established in 2020 and published twice yearly by Wiley on behalf of the Association for Feminist Anthropology (AFA), a section of the American Anthropological Association. It provides a dedicated platform for feminist scholarship that expands and challenges traditional anthropological discourses by centering perspectives from the margins. The journal’s mission is to magnify and center feminist research, theory, and praxis that interrogates power, gender, embodiment, race, sexuality, labor, and marginality across diverse social and cultural contexts. Each issue features research articles, situating research essays, voices in conversation (interviews with thinkers in the field), creative and artistic contributions, and reflections on feminist pedagogies. This diversity of formats reflects the journal’s commitment to engaging feminist anthropology as a living, dynamic conversation rather than a singular methodology. Feminist Anthropology encourages submissions that engage both traditional and innovative forms of evidence and analysis — from ethnographic to creative works — and values scholarship that situates anthropological inquiry within broader movements for social justice. With a biannual publication rhythm, it supports sustained exploration of themes such as intersectionality, coloniality, embodiment, anti‑racist praxis, and participatory research. Its editorial approach — rooted in feminist principles of collaboration, reflexivity, and political engagement — makes it a vital venue for scholars, activists, and educators seeking to advance feminist thought within anthropology and across interdisciplinary audiences.
