Journal Descriptions

Family Court Review (FCR) is a well-established scholarly journal that has been continuously published since 1963, making it one of the longest-running interdisciplinary journals in the field of family law and family court research. It is issued quarterly and sponsored by the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts (AFCC), an international association of judges, attorneys, mediators, social scientists, and mental health professionals dedicated to improving responses to family conflict. The journal is published in cooperation with the Center for Children, Families, and the Law at Hofstra University School of Law and carries a mix of peer-reviewed articles, legal analyses, empirical studies, policy reviews, and occasional student-written notes that highlight contemporary issues and innovations pertaining to family court systems. FCR’s interdisciplinary nature fosters dialogue between legal and social science communities, encouraging contributions that examine the intersection of theory, practice, and research in family law, dispute resolution, and court procedure. Topics frequently covered include child custody and abduction, parenting plans, mediation and alternative dispute resolution, child support and welfare, domestic violence, and the development of family court programs and policies. Its quarterly frequency ensures timely coverage of emerging trends, legislative changes, and research findings that influence practice and policy in family courts around the world.
