Journal Descriptions

Expert Review of Respiratory Medicine [ISSN 1747-6348]; [e-ISSN 1747-6356] is a MEDLINE-indexed, international subscription-based journal publishing rigorously peer-reviewed review articles and original papers in the fields of obstructive, restrictive, vascular and infectious respiratory diseases. Respiratory disease imposes a global burden affecting hundreds of millions of people. Around 3 million people die from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) each year, making it the 3 rd leading cause of death worldwide, and lower respiratory infections remain the world’s most deadly communicable disease, ranked as the 4 th leading cause of death. Given the intractable nature of the established diseases and emerging threats, such as the rise in allergies and the current global coronavirus pandemic, the importance of respiratory medicine has never been greater. Each article is structured to incorporate the author’s own expert opinion on the impact of the topic on research and clinical practice and the scope for future development. Coverage includes the following key areas: Prospects for new and emerging therapeutics and diagnostic methods, including imaging techniques, biomarkers and physiological tests Updates on the status and advances of specific disease areas, including asthma, HIV/AIDS-related disease, cystic fibrosis, COPD and sleep-disordered breathing morbidity Epidemiology of respiratory diseases and preventative strategies, including disease and treatment issues for defined populations, such as children and the elderly All aspects of COPD, from patient self-management to systemic effects of the disease and comorbidities Advances in the treatment of respiratory infections and drug resistance issues Progress in smoking intervention and cessation methods Respiratory intensive and critical care
