European Journal of Soil Science (EJSS)
Journal Descriptions
The European Journal of Soil Science (EJSS) is a leading international, peer-reviewed scientific journal dedicated to advancing understanding of soil systems from molecular to global scales. Published six times per year by Wiley-Blackwell on behalf of the British Society of Soil Science, it provides a premier platform for original research articles, reviews, and technical communications that deepen theoretical and mechanistic knowledge of soil physical, chemical, biological, and ecological processes. Since its relaunch in 1994, evolving from the historic Journal of Soil Science (established 1950), EJSS has promoted high-impact scholarship spanning soil health and fertility, soil–plant interactions, nutrient cycling, soil organic matter and carbon dynamics, land use change, climate impacts, soil contamination and remediation, and modelling of soil systems. The journal emphasizes rigorous methodology, interdisciplinary approaches, and applicability to both natural and managed environments such as agricultural, forestry, and urban ecosystems. Under the editorial leadership of Professor Jennifer Dungait, EJSS maintains a rigorous peer-review process and publishes cutting-edge findings that shape scientific understanding, inform sustainable soil management policies, and support global research initiatives in environmental and agricultural sciences. Indexed widely in Scopus and the Web of Science, it attracts contributions from researchers worldwide and remains a core resource for soil scientists, environmental researchers, agronomists, and policymakers focused on soil sustainability and ecosystem resilience.
