Journal Descriptions

The European Journal of Social Theory (EJST) is a leading scholarly platform for advancing intellectual inquiry into the conceptual foundations of social life and social change. Since its inception in 1998, the journal has been published quarterly by SAGE Publications and has developed a strong reputation for fostering interdisciplinary theoretical scholarship that draws on sociology, political theory, philosophy, cultural studies, and other related disciplines. EJST is committed to publishing work that engages deeply with substantive conceptual problems, including the nature of agency, structures of power, processes of globalization, notions of identity and community, and the methodological challenges of interpreting contemporary social transformations. The journal embraces a broad conception of social theory that goes beyond narrow disciplinary boundaries, welcoming contributions that push theoretical boundaries and that bring fresh analytical perspectives to enduring questions in the social sciences. It features original research articles, essays, and critical debates that confront the pressing intellectual challenges of our time, ranging from critiques of capitalism and modernity to explorations of migration, inequality, and cultural dynamics. By bridging classical theoretical insights with emerging lines of inquiry, EJST serves as a vibrant intellectual forum that shapes contemporary social thought and informs scholarly conversations across Europe and around the globe.
