Journal Descriptions

The European Journal of International Relations (EJIR) is one of the leading scholarly journals in the discipline of international relations, widely regarded for advancing theoretical and empirical research that shapes global IR debates. Launched in 1995 by the Standing Group on International Relations of the European Consortium for Political Research (ECPR) in partnership with the European International Studies Association (EISA), the journal was created to provide a distinctive European voice in international relations while engaging with the broader global academic community. Published quarterly by SAGE Publications, EJIR features articles that contribute to innovative thinking about international politics, encompassing topics such as the nature of power, security governance, conflict and peace, global political economy, diplomacy, human rights, and normative theory. It is known for its theoretical pluralism, encouraging submissions that push the boundaries of conventional IR frameworks while promoting rigorous conceptual clarity and methodological diversity. The editorial mission emphasizes interdisciplinary engagement and critical dialogue, seeking to bridge scholarly debates between different intellectual traditions and regions. Over its more than two decades of publication, EJIR has become a central platform for scholars and practitioners interested in the evolving dynamics of world politics, reflecting both European scholarly roots and broad international relevance.
