Journal Descriptions

Environment and Planning F: Philosophy, Theory, Models, Methods and Practice is a peer-reviewed academic journal published by SAGE that serves as a forum for cutting-edge scholarship at the intersection of geographic theory, philosophical reflection, modelling, and research methodology. Launched in 2022, the journal recognizes that contemporary challenges in environment and planning scholarship require more than empirical description: they demand robust interrogation of how and why we know what we know, and how theoretical and methodological choices shape both research outcomes and real-world practice. The journal’s scope spans conceptual inquiry into foundational assumptions, critical evaluation of models and methods, and the development of integrated frameworks that advance interdisciplinary research. It seeks contributions that question traditional disciplinary boundaries and encourage dialogue across human geography, environmental studies, planning, sociology, and science and technology studies. By foregrounding philosophical and methodological sophistication, Environment and Planning F fosters insights into the nature of spatial knowledge — how data, models, and conceptual tools both enable and constrain understanding of place, mobility, networks, and socio-environmental dynamics. In doing so, it supports innovative research that shapes future academic debates and influences policy and practice across global contexts.
