Environment and Planning D: Society and Space is an international, interdisciplinary scholarly journal that publishes research advancing conceptual, theoretical, and empirical understandings of how social structures, practices, and struggles are shaped by and shape space. Its scope traverses human geography, sociology, urban studies, cultural theory, politics, environmental justice, planning, and related social sciences, with an emphasis on critical analyses of power, difference, inequality, resistance, and spatial production. The journal seeks submissions that push theoretical boundaries while maintaining contextual relevance — critically engaging with how modes and systems of power, oppression, and resistance shape lives and spatial environments around the world. It publishes original research articles, essays, thematic forums, book reviews, and other scholarly work that deeply interrogates social-spatial relations, governance structures, embodiment and mobility, and struggles over space and resources. Contributions often bring together critical epistemologies and methodologies to address contemporary global challenges and injustices, fostering a theoretically rich and empirically grounded discourse in the social sciences and spatial scholarship.
