Environment and Behavior (EB)
Journal Descriptions
Environment and Behavior is a highly respected, peer-reviewed academic journal dedicated to advancing knowledge about how human behavior is shaped by, and in turn shapes, physical environments. First published in 1969, the journal has a long history of fostering interdisciplinary research at the intersection of environmental psychology, environmental studies, design, urban planning, sociology, and related fields. Appearing in ten issues each year, it features original empirical research, theoretical contributions, and methodological innovations that explore the multifaceted relationships between humans and their physical surroundings — from natural landscapes to built environments such as neighborhoods, workplaces, schools, and healthcare settings. The journal highlights research on environmental perception, cognition, well-being, attachment, behavior change, and sustainability, as well as the social and psychological processes that underlie responses to environmental stimuli. Its publications have influenced policy, design practices, and scientific understanding of environmental behavior across cultural and contextual settings. With a global editorial board and contributors from diverse academic backgrounds, Environment and Behavior continues to shape discourse on environmental interactions and inform evidence-based approaches in planning, design, and policy.
