Emerging Adulthood (EA)
Journal Descriptions
Emerging Adulthood is a leading interdisciplinary, peer‑reviewed academic journal dedicated to advancing theory, methodology, and empirical research on the developmental period between adolescence and full adulthood — typically spanning the late teens through the late twenties. Launched in 2013 and published by SAGE Publications on behalf of the Society for the Study of Emerging Adulthood (SSEA), the journal appears in six issues per year and serves as a global forum for scholarly work that addresses how identities, relationships, behaviors, and social contexts shape young adult lives. Emerging Adulthood emphasizes research that makes both basic and applied contributions to fields such as developmental psychology, social psychology, human development and family science, sociology, public health, clinical psychology, and education. Articles frequently explore topics like identity development, mental and behavioral health, substance use, social media influence, cultural diversity, and life transitions. The journal welcomes a wide range of research designs — from rigorous quantitative analyses to rich qualitative studies — and highlights work that informs both scientific understanding and practical policy or intervention strategies. With an international editorial board and contributions from scholars around the world, Emerging Adulthood shapes interdisciplinary conversation on the experiences and challenges during the pivotal transition into adult roles and responsibilities.
