ECS Solid State Letters (SSL)
Journal Descriptions
ECS Solid State Letters (SSL) was a specialized scientific journal published by The Electrochemical Society from 2012 to 2015 that provided an outlet for fast publication of concise, high‑impact research in solid state science and technology. Launched alongside ECS Electrochemistry Letters to succeed the broader Electrochemical and Solid‑State Letters, SSL focused specifically on materials and device‑related studies in the solid state domain — such as solid‑state chemistry, electronic and magnetic materials, nanostructured systems, and processing technologies. Articles published in SSL were typically short communications or letters that reported significant technical advances requiring rapid dissemination to the scientific community. The journal operated on a monthly schedule, with accepted manuscripts appearing promptly to serve readers and researchers interested in cutting‑edge developments. SSL filled a publishing niche by emphasizing both scientific novelty and technical relevance across a spectrum of solid state topics until its discontinuation at the end of 2015. After that, letters‑style manuscripts in the solid state domain began to be published within the ECS Journal of Solid State Science and Technology under a new “Communication” article type, consolidating full‑length and letters‐style research in one journal. Archived issues of SSL are preserved in the ECS Digital Library, maintaining a record of its contributions to the field.
