Economic Anthropology (EA)
Journal Descriptions
Economic Anthropology is an international, peer-reviewed academic journal published by John Wiley & Sons on behalf of the Society for Economic Anthropology (a section of the American Anthropological Association). Established in 2014, the journal began as an annual themed issue and expanded to a biannual publication in 2016 to accommodate growing scholarly interest in the field. It provides a dedicated forum for research that examines economic activities through an anthropological lens — valuing deep ethnographic insight, historical perspective, and theoretical innovation. The journal’s scope covers a broad array of topics, including how people conceptualize value and exchange, the social life of money and debt, labor and livelihood strategies, informal and household economies, entrepreneurship in diverse settings, and the effects of globalization and policy on local economic practices. It also welcomes work that engages with economic sociology, archaeology, political economy, and development studies from an anthropological perspective. With contributions from scholars worldwide, Economic Anthropology highlights research that challenges conventional economic paradigms and enriches understanding of how economic processes are embedded in cultural and social worlds. Its rigorous peer review and interdisciplinary focus make it valuable for academics, students, and practitioners interested in the cultural dimensions of economic life, comparative ethnography, and the complex interplay between culture, society, and economy.
