Ecological Research (ER)
Journal Descriptions
Ecological Research is the flagship ecological science journal published on behalf of the Ecological Society of Japan in collaboration with Wiley. Since its establishment in 1986, it has provided a global platform for high-quality, peer-reviewed ecological research that encompasses both basic and applied dimensions of ecology. The journal’s scope is broad and inclusive, embracing studies from population dynamics to ecosystem interactions, and from evolutionary ecology to ecological modelling. A hallmark of Ecological Research is the diversity of its content: original articles presenting novel empirical data or theoretical advances; insightful reviews synthesizing current understanding; technical reports illuminating methodological innovations; and concise notes that stimulate new ideas. Its bimonthly publication schedule ensures timely dissemination of research findings critical to understanding biological communities, ecological processes, and environmental change impacts. Researchers from diverse geographic regions and ecological disciplines contribute to the journal, resulting in a rich exchange of perspectives that advances ecological science as a global, integrative field. With rigorous editorial standards and an international advisory board, Ecological Research continues to support the development of ecology both as a science and as a foundation for informed environmental policy and management.
