Journal Descriptions

Ecological Indicators is a well-established monthly peer-reviewed scientific journal first published in 2001 and currently published by Elsevier B.V. It serves as a leading platform for ecological and environmental research focused on indicator science—the development, testing, modelling, and applied use of ecological metrics to evaluate ecosystem health, biodiversity trends, and environmental sustainability. The journal emphasizes rigorous, quantitative methodologies and interdisciplinary assessments that link ecological indicators to management practices, policy decisions, and ecosystem monitoring programs. It publishes a wide range of contributions including original research articles, review papers, short notes, case studies, special themed issues, viewpoints, and letters to the editor, all of which contribute to advancing the science and application of ecological indicators across terrestrial, aquatic, and socio-ecological systems. With both print ISSN 1470-160X and E-ISSN 1872-7034, Ecological Indicators attracts global contributions and is indexed in major scientific databases. The current Editor-in-Chief is Giovanni Zurlini, PhD of the University of Salento, who leads an international editorial board ensuring the journal’s scientific quality and relevance. Manuscript submissions and peer review are managed via Elsevier’s Editorial Manager, with detailed author guidelines on the journal’s ScienceDirect page.
