Ecological Complexity (EC)
Journal Descriptions
Ecological Complexity is a quarterly peer-reviewed scientific journal established in 2004 and published by Elsevier B.V. It serves as a platform for high-quality research in ecology and biocomplexity, emphasizing theoretical and empirical contributions that enhance understanding of complex ecological systems. The journal publishes original articles that integrate multiple scales of ecological interaction, from individual organisms to ecosystems, and that link environmental, biological, and social processes to explain ecological dynamics. Its interdisciplinary focus bridges traditional ecology with modeling, network analysis, ecosystem processes, biodiversity studies, and environmental change research. With both print ISSN 1476-945X and electronic ISSN 1476-9840, Ecological Complexity is indexed in major scientific databases and features research relevant to ecologists, system modelers, environmental scientists, and sustainability researchers. The current Editor-in-Chief is Sergei Petrovskii of the University of Leicester (United Kingdom). Manuscript submissions and editorial correspondence are managed through Elsevier’s online submission system, and detailed author guidelines are available on the journal’s ScienceDirect page. As a journal published in the Netherlands by Elsevier’s Amsterdam office, Ecological Complexity continues to attract contributions that address pressing ecological questions through innovative and integrative scientific approaches.
