Drug and Alcohol Review (DAR)
Journal Descriptions
Drug and Alcohol Review is a peer-reviewed, interdisciplinary scientific journal dedicated to advancing knowledge on alcohol and other drug problems from diverse disciplinary perspectives. Since its inception in 1982, the journal has evolved from the Australian Alcohol/Drug Review to become an international forum that bridges research, clinical practice, policy analysis, and harm-reduction approaches in addiction science. It publishes original research articles, systematic reviews, commentaries, and policy-relevant analyses that explore the causes, consequences, prevention, treatment, and societal impacts of substance use and misuse. The journal’s scope includes epidemiological studies, clinical interventions, behavioral and social dimensions of substance use, public health approaches, and policy evaluations that address alcohol, tobacco, opioids, cannabis, and other drugs. As the official journal of the Australasian Professional Society on Alcohol and other Drugs (APSAD), it connects researchers, clinicians, service providers, and decision-makers globally. Its seven-issue per year schedule supports timely dissemination of high-quality research that informs evidence-based practice and policy. Indexed in major bibliographic databases, Drug and Alcohol Review plays a vital role in shaping debates and strategies around addiction science, harm reduction, treatment innovations, and public health responses to substance-related disorders.
