Droit et société (DS)
Journal Descriptions
The journal Droit et Société was founded in 1985 by a group of researchers and teachers who, coming from the fields of philosophy, theory and sociology of law and the state, thought it timely and useful to offer a regular forum for exchanges on the legal in its various dimensions, for research and analysis from a variety of disciplinary backgrounds and produced within an international framework. More than thirty years of existence, and a national and international audience, already testify to the value and relevance of this project, which is rich in content and spirit, both in its intention and in its realization. Far from the quarrels of chapels, confrontations or reciprocal ignorance between disciplines, the aim is to give an account, as openly as possible and as scientifically ordered as possible, of the wealth of work and reflection in the social sciences on law and justice as they develop in France and throughout the world. This challenge, which has been met for over thirty years, seems even more justified today. Indeed, what has been termed a phenomenon of juridicization and judiciarization is putting the question of law and justice back at the heart of transformations in society and politics, as envisioned by the great founding figures of the social sciences. This explains why it is no longer only intradisciplinary specializations, such as the sociology of law, that are now concerned, but social science disciplines in general: history, philosophy, sociology, anthropology, political science... The journal Droit et Société is part of this evolution. It helps to promote it: through its Dossiers, through presentations of Questions en débat (mainly those concerning justice), through a Études section devoted to research articles on various subjects, through an À propos section devoted to an in-depth commentary on one or more works, and through an abundant Chronique bibliographique covering a wide range of publications.
