Discourse, Context & Media (DC&M)
Journal Descriptions
Discourse, Context & Media is a multidisciplinary scholarly journal that focuses on research at the intersection of discourse studies, communication, media studies, and sociolinguistics. Established in 2012 and published by Elsevier B.V. in the Netherlands, the journal aims to provide an innovative platform for rigorous analyses of discourse as it is shaped by, and enacted through, contemporary media technologies and practices. Its coverage includes theoretical explorations, methodological innovations, and empirical studies addressing how language and other semiotic resources operate in mediated environments — including digital platforms, broadcast media, social networks, and hybrid communication spaces — in ways that influence social interactions, cultural practices, and knowledge production. By prioritizing research that situates discourse within real‑world media contexts, the journal encourages contributions that deepen understanding of how communication processes are structured and interpreted in a fast‑changing global media landscape. It publishes original research, review articles, and special thematic issues on topics such as multimodality, mediated interaction, ideology and representation, digital discourse, and language and society. The journal appears in major scholarly databases and maintains a bimonthly (six issues per year) publication schedule with hybrid open access options.
