Digital Society (DS)
Journal Descriptions
Digital Society is an interdisciplinary journal featuring research and policy documentation on digital transformations that are in progress, that occurred in the past, or that may occur in the future. We are interested in discussing and contributing the conceptualisation and evaluation of such transformation, for their impact on the digital society. We strive to contribute to fair, responsible, and sustainable design, governance, and regulation of the digital transformation processes. We are interested in topics such as cybersecurity and digital conflicts; digital sovereignty; e-citizenship, e-democracy, and e-governance; e-commerce; e-health and digital well-being; the environmental impact of digital technologies, including discussion of e-waste and sustainability of digitalization; ethnographic and anthropological studies about digital cultures; the gig-economy; new forms of mobility; online education and training; the political impact of social platforms; privacy and data protection regulations; and the development of smart cities. Given the rapid pace of digital innovation, this list is indicative only, and the disciplinary perspectives required are multiple. We welcome submissions from academic research as well as from outside academia - for instance, from think tanks, government institutions, industry, or other sectors. The journal publishes research articles of different types, often in collections edited by topic specialists, as well as commentaries and brief communications, and review papers that critically engage with best practices and policies relevant to its scope. The journal welcomes rigorous investigations, evaluations, and recommendations concerning the ethical, legal, policy, and social aspects of the impact of digital technologies on society.
