Developing World Bioethics (DWB)
Journal Descriptions
Developing World Bioethics is an international peer-reviewed academic journal dedicated to advancing scholarship in bioethics that is especially relevant to low- and middle-income countries and global justice issues. Established in 2001 as a companion to the flagship journal Bioethics, it fills an important niche by addressing ethical, social, and policy dimensions of healthcare and research that are often under-represented in mainstream bioethics literature. The journal publishes original research articles, conceptual analyses, case studies, and commentary that examine topics such as healthcare equity, research ethics in international contexts, cultural perspectives on ethical principles, resource allocation, clinical ethics consultation, public health ethics, and the impact of globalization on health policy. With contributions from scholars, practitioners, and policymakers across continents, the journal fosters dialogue about ethical challenges that arise from inequalities in global health systems, the conduct of international clinical trials, and culturally-specific values that shape ethical decision making in developing settings. While its scope is global, the emphasis remains on contexts where resources are limited, and ethical frameworks must grapple with poverty, access barriers, and systemic injustices. Developing World Bioethics is indexed in major databases including MEDLINE/PubMed and Scopus, and continues to be a vital resource for academics, clinicians, and ethicists working on issues at the intersection of healthcare, ethics, and global development.
