Journal Descriptions

Founded in 1882, Dante Studies is the official journal of the Dante Society of America and the premier journal devoted to Dante in the English-speaking world. Published annually and peer-reviewed, the journal features engaging and fresh scholarship relating to Dante's life, work, and continued cultural relevance. Open to all methodological approaches, Dante Studies is a global, multidisciplinary tool for research and reflection. Dante Studies accepts submissions of original scholarship in English or Italian on subjects connected with Dante's life, works, sources, influence, and critical reception. We welcome all methodological and theoretical approaches. Please send submissions by e-mail attachment in MS Word format to dantestudies@gmail.com. Submissions should follow the Dante Studies style guide,, and should be between 7,000 and 10,000 words. An abstract of 100 to 150 words in English should be included with all submissions. Dante Studies follows a policy of double-blind review of all submissions. Authors should avoid self-references on the title page and in both the argument and the endnotes. Submissions will normally be reviewed by members of the Editorial Board within four to six weeks of receipt. The deadline (April 15, 2025) for submitting essays for review for Vols. 143/2025 and 144/2026 has passed. When the Editorial Board is ready to accept new submissions, a notice will be posted here and circulated to various mailing lists.
