Current Opinion in Electrochemistry (COE)
Journal Descriptions
Current Opinion in Electrochemistry is a bimonthly, peer-reviewed expert review journal published by Elsevier that synthesizes and interprets key advances in electrochemical science and technology. First launched in 2017, the journal is part of the Current Opinion series, specializing in inviting leading researchers to contribute short review articles that summarize and contextualize the most impactful developments across the breadth of electrochemistry. Its editorial structure is thematic: the subject is divided into multiple core sections—such as bioelectrochemistry, electrocatalysis, energy storage and conversion, sensors, theoretical and physical electrochemistry—each overseen by an expert section editor who commissions and guides reviews. Unlike primary research journals, this title emphasizes expert commentary and evaluation, helping practitioners, educators, scientists and graduate students navigate rapidly evolving fields by highlighting trends, challenges and new directions. Editors-in-chief Richard G. Compton and Zhichuan J. Xu lead an international editorial board that maintains the journal’s high standards for clarity and insight. Manuscript proposals are handled through Elsevier’s editorial office, and publication is by invitation only, ensuring focused, high-value content for the global electrochemical community.
