Culture and Education (CE)
Journal Descriptions
Culture and Education is a respected quarterly academic journal that bridges cultural studies and educational research to deepen understanding of how culture shapes and is shaped by educational practices and systems. Since its inception in the mid‑1990s, the journal has published high‑quality research that goes beyond conventional educational analysis to explore cultural narratives, social identity processes, power relations, and the sociocultural foundations of learning. It invites work grounded in both qualitative and quantitative methods that demonstrates strong methodological rigor and theoretical grounding. The journal places particular emphasis on cultural‑historical perspectives, drawing on the legacy of researchers like Vygotsky to frame education as a culturally situated activity that cannot be fully understood outside of its cultural context. Research published in Culture and Education addresses a diverse range of educational contexts — formal and informal, institutional and community‑based — and spans issues such as language and literacy learning, curriculum and pedagogy, cultural identity and belonging, cultural impacts of educational policy, and the experiences of traditionally marginalized groups. By encouraging interdisciplinary dialogue, the journal fosters critical insights that advance scholarship on how cultural factors intersect with teaching, learning, and educational outcomes across global and local contexts.
