Journal Descriptions

Cultural Diversity and Mental Health was a peer reviewed academic journal established in 1995 by the American Psychological Association. The journal was created to address the growing need for scientific research examining the relationship between culture, ethnicity, race, and mental health. It provided an important platform for scholars, psychologists, psychiatrists, and social scientists to publish empirical and theoretical studies related to culturally diverse populations and psychological well being. The journal emphasized multicultural perspectives in psychology and explored how social, cultural, and ethnic factors influence mental health outcomes, clinical practice, identity development, stress, discrimination, and access to healthcare services. It published original research articles, theoretical discussions, integrative reviews, and community based studies focusing on historically underserved and underrepresented racial and ethnic groups. In 1999, the journal was renamed Cultural Diversity & Ethnic Minority Psychology, continuing its mission with a broader emphasis on culture, ethnicity, and race in psychological science. The journal has been indexed in major academic databases including MEDLINE, PsycINFO, and Social Sciences Citation Index. Its contributions significantly influenced multicultural counseling, community psychology, and mental health policy development in the United States and internationally.
