Conflict Management and Peace Science (CMPS)
Journal Descriptions
Conflict Management and Peace Science (CMPS) is a leading peer-reviewed international journal that advances research on the causes, management, and resolution of political conflict. Published six times a year by SAGE Publications in association with the Peace Science Society (International), CMPS provides a rigorous forum for scientific inquiry into diverse forms of conflict — from interstate war and civil violence to diplomacy and cooperative behavior — and the strategies that can mitigate or resolve them. The journal embraces interdisciplinary scholarship, welcoming work grounded in political science, international relations, economics, quantitative methods, and formal theory. It highlights innovative research that applies game theory, econometric analysis, case studies, and mixed methods to explore processes such as conflict escalation, deterrence, negotiation, mediation, and peacebuilding. Across its issues, CMPS seeks to reveal patterns in conflict onset and termination, examine the role of institutions and foreign policy, and assess the impact of economic ties on peaceful cooperation. By emphasizing scientific approaches that are transparent, data-driven, and methodologically sound, the journal contributes to both theoretical advancement and practical insights into how societies and states can better understand and manage conflict. CMPS thus serves academic researchers, policy makers, peace practitioners, and students alike with cutting-edge research that deepens knowledge on peace and conflict dynamics.
