Clinical preventive dentistry (CPD)

Clinical Preventive Dentistry was a peer reviewed dental journal focused on preventive approaches in oral healthcare and clinical dentistry. Established in 1979 in the United States, the journal served dentists, dental hygienists, oral health researchers, and preventive care specialists interested in improving dental health outcomes through evidence based preventive strategies. The publication continued until 1992 and was indexed in important biomedical and dental databases including MEDLINE and Index to Dental Literature. The journal published original research articles, clinical studies, case reports, and review papers related to prevention of dental caries, periodontal diseases, oral hygiene practices, fluoride therapy, plaque control, preventive orthodontics, and patient education. It emphasized practical preventive methods that could be integrated into routine dental practice and community oral health programs. Topics also included nutrition and oral health, preventive pediatric dentistry, mouthrinses, dental materials, and public health dentistry initiatives. Clinical Preventive Dentistry contributed significantly to the growing awareness of preventive oral healthcare during the late twentieth century, when dentistry increasingly shifted from restorative treatment toward prevention and long term oral disease management. Although the journal is now discontinued, archived issues remain valuable for historical and academic research in preventive dentistry and oral healthcare practices.
