Journal Descriptions

Clinical Hemorheology and Microcirculation is an international peer-reviewed scientific journal dedicated to advancing understanding of the flow properties of blood and the behavior of the microvascular circulation in health and disease. Established originally in 1981, and adopting its modern title in 1997, it serves researchers and clinicians by publishing high-quality original research, reviews, brief communications, and clinical observations that explore the complex interplay between blood rheology and vascular function. The science of hemorheology focuses on the physical and mechanical characteristics of blood and its elements, including red and white blood cells, plasma, platelets, and how these affect blood flow. Microcirculation — the circulation of blood through the smallest vessels such as capillaries, venules, and arterioles — is central to tissue perfusion and metabolic exchange. The journal bridges basic physiology and clinical relevance by including research on blood disorders, cardiovascular conditions, the effects of aging, inflammation, and pharmacological impacts on blood flow properties. Serving as a forum for international collaboration, the editorial board draws expertise from Europe, Asia, the Americas, and beyond. Its audience includes hematologists, physiologists, cardiologists, vascular surgeons, pharmacologists, biomedical engineers, and other scientists exploring the role of blood rheology and microvascular dynamics in health and disease.
