Clinical Chemistry, a journal of the Association for Diagnostics & Laboratory Medicine (ADLM), is the premier journal of the science and practice of clinical laboratory medicine. Since its establishment in 1955, this peer-reviewed scientific journal has been a focal point for publications relevant to the laboratory diagnosis and management of patients. Over its history, the journal has become relevant not only to clinical chemistry, but other clinical laboratory disciplines including genomics, hematology, microbiology, and toxicology. The journal routinely publishes articles of interest to clinical specialties such as cardiology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, genetics, immunology, infectious diseases, maternal-fetal medicine, neurology, nutrition, oncology, and pediatrics. In addition to original research, editorials, and reviews, Clinical Chemistry has several recurring features such as clinical case studies, perspectives, podcasts, and Q&A articles. Clinical Chemistry currently has the highest impact factor among journals of clinical chemistry, laboratory medicine, pathology, analytical chemistry, transfusion medicine and clinical microbiology. The journal is indexed in databases such as MEDLINE and Web of Science. The journal’s impact factor was 7.1 in the 2024 Clarivate Journal Citation Reports. The journal strives for timely evaluation of submitted manuscripts. For 2022, original research articles had a median time from submission to first editor decision of 1.5 days. Articles had a median time from submission to a final decision of acceptance of 93.4 days. For a final decision of rejection, the median time from submission was 12.0 days.
