City & Community (CC)
Journal Descriptions
City & Community is a quarterly scholarly journal published by SAGE Publishing on behalf of the Community and Urban Sociology Section of the American Sociological Association (ASA). It was launched in 2002 and has become an influential venue for high-quality empirical and theoretical research on urban and community sociology. The journal aims to advance urban sociological theory and provide deep insights into how communities function and evolve in the context of urban environments. It publishes work that explores the social dimensions of cities and neighborhoods, how local and global social processes intertwine, and how social interactions are shaped by place and social structure. Articles often address sociological interpretations of urban policy, spatial inequality, social impacts of natural and built environments, and the growing significance of virtual and geographically embedded communities. Authors employ a range of methodological approaches—from rigorous quantitative models to rich qualitative and historical analyses—making the journal a diverse and critical platform for scholars, policymakers, and practitioners interested in the latest urban sociology research. As an ASA journal, City & Community supports rigorous peer review and scholarly innovation in topics that advance general sociological theory and understanding of community life within modern cities.
