Journal Descriptions
Childhood: A Journal of Global Child Research is a major international, scholarly journal dedicated to advancing understanding of childhood from multidisciplinary perspectives. Published quarterly by SAGE Publishing in association with the Department of Education and Lifelong Learning at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), it serves as a global forum for research on children’s social relations, cultural experiences, rights, identities and everyday lives in diverse contexts around the world. The journal emphasizes both theoretical innovation and empirical rigor, welcoming contributions that explore childhood as a dynamic and socially constructed phase of life. Its articles address a wide range of topics including the sociology and anthropology of childhood, family and community practices, education and policy implications, health and well-being, inequalities and agency. Childhood fosters critical dialogue across disciplines, bridging geography, culture and method to better understand how childhood is shaped by global processes and local realities. It draws contributions from researchers, educators, and practitioners in fields such as sociology, psychology, education, cultural studies and social policy. The journal’s interdisciplinary approach supports scholarship that not only critiques existing frameworks but also proposes new ways of conceptualizing children’s roles, experiences and rights in contemporary societies.
