Journal Descriptions

Capital & Class is a long-standing peer-reviewed academic journal established in 1977 that serves as a central platform for Marxist and radical critiques of global capitalism within the social sciences and humanities. The journal transcends conventional academic divisions by embracing interdisciplinary perspectives from economics, politics, sociology, history, and cultural theory, with particular emphasis on materialist analyses rooted in the Marxist tradition. It explores key debates in value theory, class relations, labour and employment systems, domestic labour, the state, and the dynamics of capitalist social formations, while engaging with contemporary movements such as feminism, anti-racism, environmentalism, and poststructuralist critiques. Published quarterly by SAGE Publications on behalf of the Conference of Socialist Economists, Capital & Class features original research articles, critical essays, polemical pieces, and extensive book reviews. Its editorial board is elected democratically by the membership of the Conference, reflecting a commitment to scholarly independence and collective intellectual engagement. The journal is widely indexed in major abstracting and indexing databases — including Scopus and EconLit — and attracts contributions from an international community of scholars, activists, and theorists seeking to advance critical understandings of capitalism and social transformation.
