Canadian Theatre Review (CTR)
Journal Descriptions
The major magazine of record for Canadian theatre, Canadian Theatre Review (CTR) provides a platform for a wide spectrum of the theatre community—performers, directors, designers, academics, teachers, critics, and theatregoers. Published quarterly by University of Toronto Press since 1974, Canadian Theatre Review (CTR) is committed to expanding and questioning the intersecting terms in its title, investigating what constitutes ‘Canadian,’ ‘theatre,’ and ‘review.’ Rich in full-colour images and written in accessible language, CTR is both aesthetically and discursively engaging. Each issue explores a theme and gathers artists, critics, and emerging and established scholars to share their perspectives, offering a snapshot on pressing issues in performance in Canada today. CTR fosters cross-generational, intercultural exchange; community building; and knowledge sharing among artists, scholars, and readers. As a hybrid academic journal and theatre magazine, CTR develops new and diverse voices, provides a supportive editorial process, and broadens participation in conversations about theatre and performance.
