Journal Descriptions

The Bulletin of Animal Health and Production in Africa is a long‑standing African scientific bulletin dedicated to advancing knowledge on animal health and livestock production across the African continent. Originally rooted in research on epizootic disease outbreaks, the bulletin has expanded since 1975 to encompass a broad range of topics including veterinary medicine, livestock nutrition, disease control and prevention, animal production systems, parasitology, socio‑economic aspects of livestock development, and biotechnology relevant to animal resources. Published by the African Union – InterAfrican Bureau for Animal Resources (AU‑IBAR), the bulletin serves as a key vehicle for disseminating peer‑reviewed research, technical recommendations, and field studies that inform policymakers, veterinary professionals, researchers, and livestock stakeholders. Its articles address challenges and innovations in improving livestock productivity, animal health surveillance, disease management, food security, and sustainable animal resource utilization in Africa. Historically issued quarterly and identified by ISSN 0378‑9721, the bulletin draws contributions from scientists and institutions across the continent. It reflects the African veterinary and livestock research community’s efforts to share evidence‑based solutions that enhance animal welfare and agricultural development in diverse ecological and socioeconomic contexts.
