Brittonia (Brittonia)
Journal Descriptions
Brittonia is a peer-reviewed scientific journal specializing in systematic botany, covering research on the taxonomy, phylogeny, morphology, paleobotany, chemotaxonomy, anatomy, and phytogeography of plants, fungi, algae, and lichens. Established in 1931, it is one of the longest-running botanical journals, originally published sporadically and becoming quarterly from 1957 onward. The journal is named in honor of Nathaniel Lord Britton, a founding director of the New York Botanical Garden. Since 2007, Brittonia has been published by Springer Nature on behalf of the New York Botanical Garden Press, combining rigorous peer review with broad international dissemination. Each issue features original research articles, review papers, and book reviews by botanists from around the world, contributing to the scientific foundation of plant systematics and related disciplines. The journal’s content bridges classical taxonomic studies with modern evolutionary and phylogenetic approaches, making it essential reading for researchers in plant sciences and biodiversity. Brittonia remains indexed in major scientific databases and supports both print and online publication, reflecting its continued relevance within the global botanical research community.
