Biomolecular Engineering was an international journal published by Elsevier that addressed research on applying engineering principles to biological molecules and molecular systems. Its scope included experimental and theoretical studies on protein and enzyme engineering, nucleic acid manipulation, cellular biomolecular interactions, biosensor design, bioanalytical techniques and molecular process engineering. The journal welcomed original research articles, technical notes, methodological advances and comprehensive reviews that contributed to understanding and innovating at the intersection of biology and engineering. Topics covered systems for biocatalysis, metabolic pathway optimization, biomolecular characterization technologies, molecular diagnostics and engineered biological assemblies, reflecting the journal’s interdisciplinary mission. During its publication years (from 1999 through the mid‑2000s), Biomolecular Engineering served as an outlet for work that sought to develop and apply molecular‑scale solutions to problems in biotechnology, medicine, industrial bioprocessing and environmental biology. Its contributions helped to deepen knowledge of how biological macromolecules can be systematically engineered, modelled and applied in diverse scientific and technological domains. Although the journal is no longer actively published, its archived volumes remain part of the scientific record and continue to be accessible through bibliographic databases and Elsevier’s ScienceDirect platform for historical research.
