Bioelectrochemistry and Bioenergetics (BB)
Journal Descriptions
Bioelectrochemistry and Bioenergetics was an international scientific journal published throughout the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s that focused on research at the interface of electrochemistry and biological energy‑related processes. The journal welcomed original research articles, theoretical analyses and experimental findings exploring electrochemical reactions in biological membranes, electron transfer mechanisms in enzymes and cells, bioenergetic pathways involving electrochemical gradients, and interfaces where electric phenomena interact with living systems. It bridged disciplines — from biophysical chemistry and membrane science to energy metabolism and biosensor development. Throughout its run, the journal supported interdisciplinary science that helped deepen understanding of electrochemical contributions to bioenergetics and biological electrical processes. In its final decade, the journal generally published six issues per year before evolving into the continued title Bioelectrochemistry in 2000, which remains active today. While the original journal is no longer published, its archival volumes (1974‑1999) are preserved in library collections and digital repositories, reflecting its historical role in shaping modern research at the crossroads of electrochemistry and biology.
