Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Gene Structure and Expression (BBA-GSE)
Journal Descriptions
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) – Gene Structure and Expression was a specialized academic journal published monthly by Elsevier B.V. from 1982 to 2007. It was one of several topic-focused sections under the historical Biochimica et Biophysica Acta umbrella, a major journal series established in 1947 covering diverse areas of biochemistry and biophysics. The Gene Structure and Expression section concentrated on molecular mechanisms underlying the structure and functional expression of genes. It published original research on DNA and RNA structure, gene organization, transcription and translation processes, nucleic acid-protein interactions, DNA replication and repair, cell-cycle control, and detailed biochemical studies of regulatory elements and enzymes associated with genetic function. The journal also welcomed studies on promoter sequences, enhancer function, and RNA processing, often emphasizing mechanistic insights rather than purely descriptive data. After 2007 the title was discontinued as a separate series; much of its scope was succeeded by Biochimica et Biophysica Acta – Gene Regulatory Mechanisms, reflecting advances in understanding of gene control and regulation. During its run, the journal contributed substantially to foundational knowledge of gene structure and expression at the biochemical and biophysical level.
