Barn – forskning om barn og barndom i Norden (Barn)
Journal Descriptions
The Nordic journal Barn – research on children and childhood in the Nordic region has published research articles on children and childhood in a Nordic context since 1983. Children has an interdisciplinary profile rooted in childhood studies, with articles from academic disciplines such as sociology, anthropology, geography, pedagogy, social psychology, history, philosophy, health sciences, social work and law. The articles have different theoretical and methodological approaches, and cover a wide thematic spectrum, from children's everyday lives and cultures to public services and political contexts where children and families are included. Children is therefore of interest to researchers, practitioners and policy makers. In addition to regular scientific articles, thematic issues are published on a regular basis. The many thematic issues published in recent years include a focus on areas such as; children's rights, children's communities, children and philosophy, children and cultural encounters, historical perspectives on children and childhood, childhood and poverty, digital media in children and young people's everyday lives, children and parents in welfare systems, and children, immigration and integration. Barn is an open access and peer-reviewed journal published quarterly. Articles are published primarily in Scandinavian languages, as well as in English with contributions from Iceland and Finland. Children – Research on Children and Childhood in the Nordic Region is a scientific interdisciplinary journal rooted in interdisciplinary childhood studies. Barn publishes original and critical research articles that contribute to the development of the research field of childhood studies, for both experienced researchers and researchers early in their careers. Children is a forum for research on children and young people in a Nordic context, and includes both contemporary and historical studies.
